路透社報導，世界氣象組織報告顯示，在1991至2021年期間，歐洲氣溫每10年平均升高攝氏0.5度，但這段期間全球每10平均升溫僅攝氏0.2度。

此外，這份報告也警告，無論未來全球暖化程度為何，整個歐洲的溫度可能將繼續以超過全球平均氣溫變化的速度上升。
歐洲今年經歷了極端的夏天。英國遭遇創紀錄的熱浪，阿爾卑斯山冰川以空前速度消失，地中海受到漫長的海洋熱浪侵襲，以致海水溫度上升。
世界氣象組織秘書長塔拉斯（Petteri Taalas）發表聲明指出：「歐洲呈現出世界暖化的真實景象，這提醒了我們，即使是做好充分準備的社會也無法免於極端天氣事件影響。」
