Jane: Welcome to Napa Valley—home to America’s premium1 wines.
What kind of wine do you prefer?
Eric: Actually, I’m not a wine connoisseur2.
Jane: No worries. Shall we start with red wine then? The Merlot has a black-cherry flavor with
a round texture3. It goes with anything. Now try the Pinot Noir. It’s quite palatable4 !
Eric: Oh yes. I like this. It smells fruity5.
Jane: It’s an excellent complement to salmon, lamb and Japanese dishes.
Now try the white wines.
Eric: Mmm. This one has more of a citrus6 flavor, and a hint7 of vanilla8.
Jane: Yes, you’re right. The Chardonnay is a dry9 wine that goes nicely with chicken and fish.
Finally, try the Sauvignon Blanc. It’s lighter than the Chardonnay and has more of an
herbal10 quality to it.
Eric: Hmmm……yes, it’s crisp11 and refreshing. But I also detect12 a slightly sour apple taste.
It’s a bit smoky, too.
Jane: Well done. Your senses are very discriminating13 !
Eric: Thank you. I think I am starting to gain an appreciation for wine.
Eric:
Eric:
Eric:
Jane:
Eric:
