任職於跨國企業台灣分公司的Eric與外派來台灣的加拿大籍同事Amy相約出遊⋯⋯
Amy: Eric, stop the scooter!
Eric: What is it, Amy?
Amy: I’ve lived here for ages, but I’ve never noticed that mysterious-looking hillside community. What is it?
Eric: That’s the Treasure Hill Artist Village4. It used to be an illegal settlement for
mostly veterans.
Amy: So why is it called an artist village?
Eric: In the 1980s, the Taipei government started revitalizing the city and over the decades, slowly turned this area into an artistic space.
Amy: That must have caused an uproar.
Eric: Let’s say, no pain no gain8. For what it’s worth, now it’s a bustling artistic community with art studios9, exhibition rooms, and rehearsal rooms for dance or music. The New York Times even described it a must-seetourist spot in Taipei.
Amy: Eric, let’s turn the scooter around and explore this “hidden treasure.”
Amy： 艾瑞克，機車停一下！
Eric： 怎麼了，艾咪？
Amy： 我在這裡住好久了，但我從來沒注意過山坡上那個看起來好神祕的社區！那是什麼呀？
Eric： 那是寶藏巖藝術村。它曾經是榮民們居住的違章建築區。
Amy: 為什麼它會被稱為藝術村呢？
Eric： 在1980 年代，台北市政府開始規劃都市更新，幾10 年間，漸漸將這一區改建為藝術空間。
