John: It’s a real scorcher today. It must be at least 36 degrees!
Eric: Let’s take refuge in this ice parlor.
John: Don’t you mean “ice cream parlor”?
Eric: No, this store doesn’t serve ice cream. It sells Taiwanese cold treats and drinks.
John: Cool! You know, I still can’t get over the mind-boggling variety of drinks at convenience stores. There are black, green, jasmine and fruit teas, and teas with aloe vera, coconut jelly and tapioca pearls. The list goes on.
Eric: Yes, there are probably hundreds of types! At this store, you can even have tea-flavored shaved ice or add common toppings like strawberries, mango, red beans, mung beans, grass jelly, and taro.
John: So, what do you recommend?
Eric: Mango shaved ice. It’s hugely popular. On top of a mound of shaved ice, they put mango and pureed mango syrup, with sweetened condensed milk poured on top.
John: Great. That sounds like the best way to beat the summer heat.
John:
Eric:
John:
John:
John:
